The Second Day, part II: Supper for Us!

The last post features what we did during the day. This post is about our evening.

The great folks at the First Christian Church of Slidell held a potluck supper for us with congregates brining in homemade dishes. The food was fantastic! The company was even better. We got to meet people who told us their stories of going through the horror of Katrinia and how they worked to recover from the disaster. Also, they helped us to understand that the recovery process is continuing for many people, and will be ongoing for the next 3-5 years.

In these pictures you see us having a meal inside the facility, which was behind the main church building, and how the Rev. Susan Lassalle, pastor of the church, took the students outside for a group photo up in a special tree between the new church and the mission building. The tree, a 250 year old oak draped with Spanish Moss was absalutely beautiful.

As an added bonus the congregation gave each of us a cookbook with many regional (lots of southern and Cajun recipes) dishes.
